New Spring Collection for Mother of the Bride

It’s that moment of panic which arrives minutes after hearing the joyous news that your daughter (or son) is getting married: the realisation that you are going to have to find an outfit for the big day.

And not just any outfit, but one that lives up to the ridiculously high expectations which today’s mother s of the bride or groom seem to have set themselves – or perhaps have been set by all those glossy bridal magazines!

The first piece of advice from SoSensational.co.uk, which specialises in helping grown up women find fabulous fashion,  is “don’t panic” – whatever your budget, you will find the perfect outfit.

And with its beautiful clothes from so many wonderful mother-of-the bride/mother-of-the-groom collections, Gray & Osbourn is one of the best shopping sites at which to find the perfect outfit – one that you will feel fabulous and confident wearing.

Their new Spring/Summer 2013 collections feature brilliant dresses and dress-and-coat and dress-and-jacket ensembles in elegant plains and on-trend prints from labels which understand the needs of grown up women, such as Gina Bacconi, Vera Mont, Joseph Ribkoff, Gerry Weber, Frank Lyman, Bernshaw and Chesca.

Being big fans of simplicity and the principle of less is more; we absolutely love the ladylike navy lace dress with bracelet-length sleeves from Gina Bacconi. We would team it with a nude clutch and mid-heel nude courts and a hat or fascinator in an accent colour, like fuchsia or emerald.

Another of our favourite mother-of-the-bride outfits is also from Gina Bacconi. In palest grey, it looks like a very elegant dress and jacket, but is actually a three-piece comprising a short-sleeve camisole, edge-to-edge jacket  – both very delicately trimmed in guipure lace – and a very flatteringly cut, fluted skirt with fish-tail hem at the back. Very understated, it looks endlessly elegant accessorised as here with pale grey clutch, pale grey hat and black patent shoes. Alternatively, you could add a pop of colour with a hat in fuchsia , turquoise or emerald.

We also love this black and print dress and jacket from Joseph Ribkoff. Although black is not traditionally worn by a mother-of-the bride, we feel the clever placement print in that deliciously pretty floral design on a white ground qualifies it for consideration. And it is such a great shape, too, with that ultra-slimming band of black through the waistline on both the dress and that shapely zipped jacket, taking inches off the wearer. We would accessorize with black mid-heel pumps and a black clutch, and add a hat that picks up an accent colour from the print, such as buttercup yellow, rose pink or the slightly less predictable sea-green.
